Halichoeres chrysus Randall 1981 View in CoL —Canary wrasse

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed on 1–2 and 5 June 2013 during ACIAR Aquarium Survey in Kavieng District (see Teitelbaum et al. 2013: 15); a video of a specimen taken at Alexander Passage, off southeastern New Hanover , at 5–14 m depth, St. KR 96, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Indonesia east to Marshall and Phoenix islands, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia and New Caledonia. Found in small groups, on sandrubble bottom adjacent to coral reefs, 2–70 m depth. Marine.
