Status at New Ireland. New record, based on a video of a specimen taken near Nusa Island, Kavieng District at 5–23 m depth, St. KR8, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 2.—General distribution: Red Sea and East Africa east to Philippines and New Guinea and Solomon Islands, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland ( Australia) and New Caledonia. Found on sand bottom of coastal and seaward reefs, associated with an alpheid shrimp, 6–30 m depth. Marine.
