Type species: Neoschoengastia malayensis Gater, 1932 , by original designation.

Diagnosis. SIF = 6B-N-3(2)-3(2)111.1(0)000. Eyes 2 + 2, 1 + 1 or absent. Scutum quadrate, with anterolateral shoulders, its posterior margin slightly convex or concave; sensillary bases situated far anterior to level of PL setae. Sensilla clavate.

Hosts. Mammals, birds, reptiles. Postlarval stages of Ascoschoengastia are associated with trees (hollows or roots of epiphytes), therefore, its larvae parasitize mainly arboreal hosts.

Distribution. Worldwide, mainly in Indomalayan zone.
