scientific name

Ceblepyris chilensis Meyen, 1834a : 74
status

Ceblepyris chilensis Meyen, 1834a: 74 .

Now: Lalage nigra nigra R. Forster, 1781 . See Stresemann (1930: 19), Dickinson & Dekker (2002: 15).

Holotype: ZMB 1948 ( Lichtenstein 1832, Nr. 31 sub “ Ceblepyris n. sp. ”), skin, juv., collected by Meyen [during 15 Sep–16 October 1831; see below] in “ Chile ” or “ Peru ” [= southern Luzon, Philippines; see below].

Type locality. M.H.C. Lichtenstein (1832; with question marks) and Meyen (1834a: 74) wrote that the holotype was collected in February in Chile, but it is of Lalage nigra Forster, 1781 , an Old World member of the family Campephagidae ( Stresemann 1930: 19, 1952: 520; our reexamination). Considering the range of this species ( Taylor 2005: 99) and Meyen’s itinerary, the holotype could have been collected only in southern Luzon (at Manila or at Laguna de Bay). We thus ascertain the type locality as southern Luzon (Manila or Laguna Bay) .
