Map 8. Figure 36View FIGURE 36. a – g (h –l).

Type locality. Peru, Ucayali, Pucallpa  , 8 ° 23 'S 74 ° 33 'W. Holotype Male CNC.

Male. Head: Black. Lunule pale around central black macula. Frontal triangle dull brown-pollinose medially, white-silver pollen (continuous from face) restricted to lateral margin except around eye contiguity. Vertical triangle with 3 rows of pile, but most pile concentrated in a single median row; ocellar triangle ~ 2 times its length from posterior eye margin. Eye contiguity as long as vertical triangle length. Eye with posterior indentation positioned dorsal to level of antennal insertion. Antennal insertions confluent, ventral margin with short dorsal extension. Dorsal ¼ of occiput with posterior row of white scale-like pile and 2 anterior rows of shorter simple black pile; middle ½ with 3–4 rows of scale-like white pile, posterior row longer, anterior rows shorter and irregular, pile is black and simple dorsally; ventral ¼ with 2–3 irregular rows of scale-like white pile.

Thorax: Scutum black, mainly sparese dull pollinose, except with white pollen concentrated laterally posterior to transverse suture; scutum with long and black pile, longer on notopleuron, and with anterior row of scale-like white pile interrupted in the middle. Scutellum black, with long, black pile, subscutellar fringe pile long and light brown. Pleuron black and with white pile, except black pilose on dorso-posterior ½ of posterior anepisternum, anterior anepimeron, dorso and ventro-posterior katepisternum, and the pile is densely arranged on the posterior anepisternum. Plumula white. Calypter dorsal lobe reduced to a ⅓ of the length of the ventral lobe, white. Halter orange.

Wing: Hyaline with anterior margin slightly darker (cells bc, c and sc and diffusely dark on basal ½ of r 1), entirely microtrichose; alula large, basally 1.5 times to apically 3.5 times as broad as c cell, hyaline, entirely microtrichose.

Legs: Proleg dark brown, apex of profemur and base and apex of protibia pale. Mesoleg dark brown, apex of profemur and basal ½ of mesotibia pale. Metaleg dark brown, apex of metafemur, apical 2 / 5 of metabasitarsomere to 3 rd metatarsomere pale, 4 th and 5 th metatarsomeres light brown.

Abdomen: Black; 2.4 times as long as thorax. First tergite mainly black pilose, pile white baso-ventrally. Second tergite long, length 2 times minimum width, with central rectangular region of dull black pollen; 2 nd tergite with black pile, except white on basal ⅓ and baso-lateral ⅔, pile short and appressed except pile long and erect on basal ⅓ and laterally. Third tergite trapezoidal, length 1.5 times minimum width, with large central triangular region of dull black pollen, and with appressed and black pile, except slightly longer, erect and white on basolateral corner. Fourth tergite rectangular and long, and with pair of central sub-lateral maculae and a median short vitta of dull black pollen; 4 th tergite with appressed and black pile, except white on baso-lateral corner. Fifth tergite rectangular and wide; remaining characteristics as on 4 th. Genitalia: Epandrium baso-ventral margin with small fold. Cercus with 1 row of pile on medial margin and 3 irregular rows on lateral margin. Surstylus sub-quadrate on lateral view, directed ventrally, with setulae (around 15) ventrally on apical ⅓, pilose on basal ⅔ of the dorsal surface. Subepandrial sclerite crescent shaped, anterior margin with small concavity. Hypandrium with notch extending to anterior ⅔. Basiphallus with posterior extension short; distiphallus with anterior surface straight. Postgonite with ventral and dorsal surfaces concave; postgonite apex convex with acute ventral and dorsal extremities, ventral extremity more apically located than dorsal extremity.

Female: Female unknown.

Length. 10mm; wing 7.5mm.

Distribution. Peru (Ucayali).

Primary type. Holotype: Male in good condition, margin of wing slightly folded, with genitalia dissected and placed in plastic tube pinned with the specimen. Holotype labels: ‘ Pucallpa  , Peru // J.Shunke // Nov.18,1947’ [handwritten] ‘Frank M. Hull // Collection // C.N.C. 1973 ’ ‘ CNC Diptera  // # 161211 ’ ‘ Holotype // Pelecinobaccha  // pucallpa  // Miranda’ [red label].
