Taxonomy. Eumops chiribaya View in CoL Medina et al., 2014,

This species is monotypic.

Distribution. Known only from two localities in lowlands of SW Peru (Arequipa and Moquegua departments). View Figure

Descriptive notes. Head-body ¢. 82 mm, tail 52-3 mm, ear 25-7-28 mm, hindfoot 11-13-5 mm, forearm 61-1-62-1 mm; weight 20-3-30 g. See general characteristics of the genus under the Black Bonneted Bat ( E. auripendulus ). Dorsal pelage of Chiribaya’s Bonneted Bat is light olive-brown; venter is paler. Pelage is soft and long (6 mm in shoulder region). Dorsal hairs are bicolored, with basal one-third white. Face is naked; upper lip is smooth to weakly wrinkled on distal edge of snout. Nose is blackish, and small and pointed warts surround upper border of narial region; small, spoon-like, blackish hairs cover internarial ribs. Upper border of ear is smooth, but inner face has brown hair distributed from dermal keel to ear top. Tragus is square-shaped, and antitragus is semicircular and wider than higher. Dorsal surfaces of propatagium and plagiopatagium near forearm and dactilopatagium at basal middle of fifth metacarpal are covered with short light olive-brown hair. Feet are blackish; short silver hair covers external edges and ventral surface of first and fifth toes of feet, and longer hair of same color covers claws. Calcar is longer than feet. Uropatagium is dull brown, with free part of tail blackish. Skull has elongated and narrow rostrum in dorsal view and straight in profile. Postorbital constriction is narrow and braincase is rounded; opisthocranion is curved dorsally and anteriorly. Basisphenoid pits are large, deep, rectangular and separated from each other by narrow septum. Lower jaw is gracile, with well-developed keel. Premetacrista is equal to one-half the length of postparacrista on M”.

Habitat. Known from coastal desert at elevations of 110-740 m.

Food and Feeding. Chiribaya’s Bonneted Bat is an aerial insectivore.

Breeding. No information.

Activity patterns. Chiribaya’s Bonneted Bat has been captured in mist nets set over blackwater rivers. Holotype was flying at c¢. 5 m whenit struck the top of a gate and fell on the road.

Movements, Home range and Social organization. No information.

Status and Conservation. Not assessed on The [UCN Red List.
