Distribution. Throughout most of the Palaearctic ( White, 1988; Merz, 1994).

Comments. Larvae of this species develop in capitula of various species of the genus Senecio (Kameneva & V. Korneyev, 1987; White, 1988; Freidberg & Kugler, 1989; Merz, 1994). Here, we record two new host plant species: Senecio kolenatianus C.A. Mey. and Caucasalia macrophylla (M. Bieb.) B. Nord. (= Senecio platyphyllus DC. ). The diagnostic characters of S. marginata are illustrated in Figs 40–43 View Figs 40–47 ; they are in agreement with the diagnosis of the species.
