Diagnosis. Ocellar triangle dark brown, smooth, main portion of triangle about three-quarter as long as frons, with a black medial sulcus from ocellar tubercle to anterior margin of frons; ocellar tubercle black. 1st antennal segment yellow, 2nd antennal segment blackish-brown, 3rd antennal segment nearly rounded, blackish-brown dorsally and distally, yellow ventrally and basally; arista black, with yellow basal segment. Scutum nearly as long as wide, yellow, but brown posteriorly, shinning, covered with long setulae, with 5 black stripes, the medial stripe attending to posterior margin of scutum.

Description. Male. Body length 2.0– 2.2 mm. Wing length 1.9–2.0 mm.

Head yellow, about 0.85 times as long as high; frons about 0.85 times as wide as long, projecting only slightly in front of eye; gena narrowed, about 0.6 times as high as 3rd antennal segment, vibrissal angle 90°. Ocellar triangle dark brown, smooth, main portion of triangle about three-quarter as long as frons, with a black medial sulcus from ocellar tubercle to anterior margin of frons; ocellar tubercle black. Setae on head long and black, setulae yellow. Oc proclinate and divergent; vte and vti developed. Eyes bare. 1st antennal segment yellow, 2nd antennal segment blackish-brown, 3rd antennal segment nearly rounded, blackish-brown dorsally and distally, yellow ventrally and basally; arista black, with yellow basally segment. Proboscis yellow with yellow setulae; palpus yellow, with yellow setulae.

Thorax slightly broader than head, yellow. Thoracic pleuron shinning yellow except for postpronotum and anterior region of anepisternum each with a black spot; katepisternum with black lower portion; katepimeron with a black spot on lower margin, covered with tiny pale setulae; postnotum black; scutum nearly as long as wide, yellow, but brown posteriorly, shinning, covered with long setulae, with 5 black stripes, the medial stripe attending to posterior margin of scutum; scutellum yellow, about 2.0 times as wide as long. Setae and setulae on thorax black. Legs long and thin, yellow, except for hind-tibiae blackish medially, and tarsomere 5 brown. Wing hyaline, veins dark brown. Relative lengths of costal sections 2nd: 3rd: 4th = 10: 14: 10. Squama yellow with yellow setulae. Halteres bright yellow.

Abdomen dark brown dorsally, yellow laterally and ventrally. Each tergum with narrow black posterior margin. Setulae on abdomen black.

Male genitalia ( Figs. 13–15 View FIGURES 11 – 15 ): epandrium brownish yellow, with black and pale setulae; surstylus long, nearly 0.5 times as high as epandrium, with posterior region long finger-like and curved backward, dark; mesolobus crescent-like; hypandrium relatively narrow in lateral view; pregonite longer than gonostylus, connected with hypandrium in 2 points; gonostylus tapered posteriorly; distiphallus shuttle-like, nearly 0.5 times as long as gonostylus.

Female. Body length 2.5 mm. Wing length 2.2 mm. Similar to male.

Type material. Holotype 3, CHINA: Ningxia: Liupanshan, 17. VI. 2007, Gang Yao. Paratypes Ƥ, same as holotype; 3, same locality as holotype, 29. VI. 2007, Gang Yao; 3, same locality as holotype, 30. VI. 2007, Gang Yao.

Distribution. China (Ningxia).

Remarks. The new species is somewhat similar to Chlorops canaliculatus Becker, 1911 from China ( Taiwan), Japan, and Philippines in the ocellar triangle dark brown entirely, smooth; the 3rd antennal segment blackish brown dorsally and distally, yellow ventrally and basally; and the palpus yellow. But it can be separated from the latter by the ocellar triangle with a black medial sulcus from the ocellar tubercle to the anterior margin of the frons; and the pregonite longer than the gonostylus, connected with the hypandrium in 2 points. In C. canaliculatus Becker , the ocellar triangle has no distinct medial sulcus in front of the ocellar tubercle; and the pregonite is shorter than the gonostylus, and connected with the hypandrium in 1 point ( Kanmiya, 1978).

Etymology. The species is named after the type locality Ningxia province.
