Three genera with 24 species are known to occur in Argentina. Two subfamilies are currently recognized in the Notonectidae , following the classification proposed by Štys and Jansson (1988): Anisopinae and Notonectinae (with three tribes). Both subfamilies and two tribes ( Notonectini and Nychiini ) are represented in the Argentinean fauna.
