Type locality. Tabernilla , Canal Zone, Panama.

Bionomics. Immature stages of this species occur in bamboo internodes, usually with a very small hole produced by beetles ( Marcondes et al. 2006; Bersot 2014). In the Atlantic Forest, southeastern Brazil, females have been collected with human landing catches and opossum bait, mostly (89%) at ground level ( Guimarães et al. 1987; Stanzani et al. 2023).

Arbovirus infection records. This species has been found naturally infected with YFV in southeastern Brazil ( Stanzani et al. 2023).

Occurrence in Brazil. States of Amapá, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Pará, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo ( Lane & Cerqueira 1942; Lane 1953; Forattini et al. 1973; Guimarães & Arlé 1984; Guimarães et al. 1985, 1987, 2000 a, 2000b, 2000c; Guimarães & Victório 1986; Zequi & Lopes 2001; Hutchings et al. 2005; Marcondes et al. 2006; Gomes et al. 2010 (as Sa. whitmani / identicus ); Alencar et al. 2011; Moreno et al. 2011; Santos et al. 2014; Dos Santos Silva et al. 2017; Müller et al. 2014; Abreu et al. 2019; Stanzani et al. 2023).

Occurrence in other countries. Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, French Guiana and Panama ( Wilkerson et al. 2021).
