Hymenophyllum crispum Kunth View in CoL , Nov. Gen. Sp. 1: 26. 1815.
= Hymenophyllum crispum Kunth var. ciliatum Rosenst., Meded. Rijks-Herb. 19: 3. 1913.
= Sphaerocionium crispum (Kunth) Klotzsch, Linnaea View in CoL 18: 537. 1844 [1845].
Range: — Jamaica; southern Mexico to Venezuela and Bolivia ( CH, CO, LP, SC, TA); southeastern Brazil.
Ecology: —Common; epiphytic or on wet clay banks, rocks, and cliffs in humid forests; (1300–) 1900–3200 m.
Notes: —Very variable with respect to blade dissection and segment width. Differs from Hymenophyllum hirsutum by undulate segments and by lacking stellate and bi-forked hairs on the petioles. It might also be confused with H. valvatum , which also has undulate segments, but that species is larger and coarser with much thicker petioles and with less strongly undulate segments.
