Trichomanes cristatum Kaulf., Enum. Fil. 265. 1824.

Range: —Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia (LP, SC); central and eastern Brazil to eastern Paraguay and northeastern Argentina.

Ecology: —Locally moderately common; terrestrial, rarely epiphytic, in humid forests, sometimes in swampy forests, places subjected to inundation, or even floating in swamp communities; to 2400 m.

Notes: — Trichomanes crispum L., from southern Mexico and Antilles to northern South America ( Colombia to Guianas, Ecuador, and northern Brazil), has been claimed to occur in Bolivia, but we have seen no unambiguous material. Rhizomes of T. crispum are short, erect, the leaves clustered; involucres are flared or only slightly bilobed, not subtended by protruding lateral veins and laminar tissue (or only slightly so). Involucres of T. cristatum are usually subtended by protruding lateral veins and laminar tissue.
