( Figs 14–17 View FIGURES 10–17 , 31 View FIGURES 30–32 , 38 View FIGURES 36–41 )

Miltochrista striata hachijoensis Inoue & Minami, 1963 , Tinea, 6 (1/2): 43, 58, pl. 8, figs 1–4 (Type locality: [ Japan, Ryukyu Islands ] “ Hachijo-Kojima : … Toriuchi, …; Utsugi ”).

Type material examined. Paratypes: 2 males, [ Japan, Ryukyu Islands] Power Plant , Hachijo-jima, 13.IV.1961, A. Suzuki / Miltochrista striata hachijoensis In. & Maen. Det. H. Inoue, 197 / Paratype / Inoue Coll. B.M. 1992- 71, unique numbers: NHMUK010604428 View Materials , NHMUK010604429 View Materials , gen. prep. No.: NHMUK010313272 View Materials (prepared by Volynkin) ( NHMUK).

Additional material examined. JAPAN: 1 female, Power Plant, Hachijo-jima, 14.IV.1961, A. Suzuki / Inoue Coll. B.M. 1992-71, unique number: NHMUK010604431 View Materials , gen. prep. No.: NHMUK010313273 View Materials (prepared by Volynkin) ( NHMUK) ; 1 female, Is. Miyake, Izu Islands , 18. VII .1961, Y. Narita / Inoue Coll. B.M. 1992-71, unique number: NHMUK010604430 View Materials ( NHMUK) .

Note. Due to the minor morphological differences and, at the same time, the high external and genital variability of the species, the status of this taxon is unclear. This question requires further investigation with other tools as molecular methods.

Diagnosis. The forewing length is 16.0– 16.5 mm in both sexes. Barsine striata hachijoensis differs from the nominate subspecies in the reduced postmedial lengthwise dashes and the reduced transverse lines (in most specimens). The male genitalia display no significant differences from B. striata striata . In the female genitalia, the corpus bursae is slightly narrower than in the nominate subspecies.

Distribution. Southern Japan: Ryukyu Islands ( Inoue & Minami 1963).
