Type locality.

Claiborne, Alabama, USA; stratum: uncertain [likely Gosport Sand (uppermost Claiborne Group)]; age: Eocene.

Type material.

Lectotype, ANSP IP5541, 1 shell (designation by Palmer 1937: 500; as “holotype” in Richards 1968: 152); paralectotypes, ANSP IP5442, 1 shell, ANSP IP5443, 1 shell, ANSP IP5444, 1 shell (each as “paratype” in Richards 1968: 152).
