Diagnosis

Bothynus fabius resembles B. deiphobus in the inner protarsal claw of male simple, equal to outer claw, without incision or ventromedial process, glabrous and deep-striated elytra, and parameres without ventrobasal carina. However, B. fabius is distinguished from B. deiphobus by the following characters: Hemisternite separated by a partial or complete longitudinal midline, never entire fused ( Figure 12 View Figure 12 (f)); metatarsomere 1 with short outer apex in both sexes ( Figure 18 View Figure 18 (e)); anterior half of tergite 7 with 1 band of well-marked stridulatory striae in both sexes ( Figure 19 View Figure 19 (b)); females bearing a cavity on each side of tergite 8 ( Figure 19 View Figure 19 (d)).
