Tekomyia populi was previously known only from Germany, from the federal states of Niedersachsen , Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and, as shown here , Brandenburg. All the male specimens studied here of this species possess 12 separate flagellomeres, with the first to fifth (rarely sixth) flagellomeres bearing small translucent sensilla; Möhn (1960) described his specimens to have 11–12 flagellomeres, the two apical flagellomeres merged into one, and all flagellomeres bearing small translucent sensilla (“Sinneskolben”).

Previous distribution. Germany. Occurrence in Sweden: Öland.

Jaschhof; 4 males (CEC195–198), Mörbylånga, Stora Dalby forest NR, 8 June–3 Oct. 2015, mixed deciduous forest with much dead ash, Malaise trap, M. & C. Jaschhof . GERMANY: male (A7634), Brandenburg, Uckermark, Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve, Langer Berg near Luisenfelde , beech forest, 28 June 2004, Malaise trap (M4b), SDEI ; male (A7633), same data but 13 June 2007 (both in SDEI) .
