Winnertzia brachypalpa Mamaev, 1975 View in CoL

Mamaev (1975) described Winnertzia brachypalpa based on a series of both males and females from the Russian Far East. Spungis (1992: fig. 28), who studied the holotype and an additional male from Ukraine, provided the first illustration of the male genitalia of this species. Our specimen from Sweden is no doubt conspecific with the holotype, which MJ studied and sketched in 2012 (see Jaschhof & Jaschhof 2013). The Swedish specimen has a two-segmented palpus with a long, pointed apical segment, whereas both Mamaev (1975) and Spungis (1992) described the palpus as three-segmented, all segments being short. Winnertzia brachypalpa is a member of the Winnertzia discreta Mohrig & Mamaev, 1970 group, species of which are characterized by the lack of a gonostylar claw (see Jaschhof & Jaschhof 2013). Within this species group, W. brachypalpa is distinguished by the short palpi with fewer than four segments and the basitarsi bearing a narrow, bent, microtrichose projection ventroapically.

Previous distribution. Ukraine, Russia (Far East). Occurrence in Sweden: Öland.

Specimen studied. SWEDEN: male (CEC270), Öland, Borgholm, Skepparsäng NR, dry pine forest, 22 July– 23 Aug. 2015, Malaise trap, M. & C. Jaschhof.
