Leobordea furcata (Merxmüller & Schreiber) L. A. Silva & J. Freitas View in CoL , comb. nov.

Leobordea furcata (Merxmüller & Schreiber) View in CoL B.-E.van Wyk & Boatwright (2011:173), Taxon 60 (1): 173. 2011, nom. inval. (contrary to Art. 41.8).

Leobordea diffusa View in CoL is a new combination for Trifolium diffusum Thunberg (1800: 136) View in CoL , but, in accordance to the Article 53.1 of the Code ( McNeill et al. 2012), this name is illegitimate because it is a posterior homonym of Trifolium diffusum Ehrhart (1792: 165) View in CoL [see the ICN ( McNeill et al. 2012)]. Under Art. 58.1 of the Code, Leobordea diffusa View in CoL B.-E. van Wyk & Boatwright must be interpreted as a replacement name for the illegitimate T. diffusum Thunberg View in CoL rather than a new combination. However, Lotononis rosea Dümmer View in CoL (in Dümmer & Pearson 1913: 305) is included in the synonymy of L. diffusa View in CoL (in B.-E. van Wyk & Boatwright, 2011: 176). Lotononis rosea View in CoL is a validly published species name whose specific epithet ought to have been adopted to replace the illegitimate Trifolium diffusum Thunberg View in CoL (non Ehrhart), rather than a new combination. Therefore, a new combination for L. rosea View in CoL within Leobordea View in CoL is proposed here:

Boatwright, J. S., Wink, M. & Van Wyk, B-E. (2011) The generic concept of Lotononis (Crotalarie, Fabaceae): Reinstatement of the genera Euchlora, Leobordea and Listia and the new genus Ezoloba. Taxon 60 (1): 161 - 177.
