Belonuchus Nordmann 1837 View in CoL

Belonuchus Nordmann 1837: 129 View in CoL . Type species: Staphylinus haemorrhoidalis Fabricius, 1801 View in CoL , by monotypy.

= Musicoderus Sharp 1885: 455 View in CoL . Type species: Musicoderus cephalotes Sharp 1885 View in CoL , des. by Lucas 1920: 425. Notes: as subgenus of Belonuchus ( Bernhauer 1916c: 266) View in CoL ; as synonym of Belonuchus ( Blackwelder 1943: 421) View in CoL .

Notes: There are 165 valid species of Belonuchus View in CoL distributed in CASA. A recent study ( Chani-Posse et al. 2018) shows Belonuchus View in CoL as a genus of Neotropical origin and generic limits so far undefined. The current concept of the genus is that of Smetana (1995), Chani-Posse (2014a) and Chani-Posse et al. (2018) but most of its Neotropical endemic species were never revised after being described and they do not fit into this concept. Species that may belong to the so called ‘ Belonuchus haemorrhoidalis View in CoL clade’ ( Chani-Posse et al. 2018) are here denoted with an asterisk *.
