Usinger (1946) first made reference to the “ signoreti ” complex when he described 16 new species in Ambrysus . In a later work, La Rivers (1957) listed the unifying features of species in the A. signoreti complex: 1) broad body shape, 2) wide embolia, 3) prominent maculation, and 4) posterolateral corners of abdominal segments III–V produced (spinose).
