D i s t r i b u t i o n: Korea, India, China: Hong Kong, Laos, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Malaysia, Timor, Japan, Malawi, South Africa, Ethiopia, Vietnam ( BERLAND 1928).
BERLAND (1928) recorded this species for Vietnam under Sphex nigripes without showing its exact locality, but S. nigripes synonymized with S. subtruncatus by SCHULZ 1912.
