Etymology: from the Arabic khaleij = gulf in reference to the Arabian Gulf where the fungus was collected.

Type species: Khaleijomyces marinus Abdel-Wahab sp. nov.

Saprobic on driftwood in the intertidal zone. Sexual morph: Ascomata globose to subglobose, hyaline to yelloworange to reddish-brown in color, superficial to immersed, coriaceous, single, ostiolate with long neck, surrounded by dense brown, septate hyphae. Neck hyaline to apricot in color, periphysate. Peridium two-layered; outer layer forming a textura epidermoidea, apricot to reddish-brown in color; inner layer forming a textura angularis. Hamathecium consists of pseudoparenchyma that fills the young ascomatal venter and breaks down into catenophyses that deliquesce early. Asci 8–spored, thin-walled, without apical apparatus, cymbiform to fusiform, persistent, developing from ascogenous tissue at the base of the ascomata. Ascospores ellipsoidal to fusiform, hyaline, one-celled, straight or slightly curved, smooth-walled, multiguttulate, 2–3 seriate in asci, hyaline when young becoming light-brown to brown in color, 1–4 septate and longer in size in old specimens. Asexual morph: Undetermined.
