Widely distributed in tropical America ( Govaerts et al. 2010) including all Brazilian regions ( Sobral et al., 2010).

Trees to 6 m tall, leaves 7.5–12.0 × 2.5–4.5 cm, midvein sulcate on adaxial lamina surface, inflorescence a raceme, bracts lanceolate, bracteoles rotund, hypanthium and style glabrous, fruits subglobose.
