Revised description. Small, squat ovoid, with conical spire and narrowly incised suture. Protoconch broad conical, multispiral, of 3.5 convex whorls. Teleoconch of five whorls. Spire whorls flat, with periphery just above abapical suture; early teleoconch whorls broad conical with prominent, orthocline axial ribs separated by interspaces of about equal width. Axial ribs with slightly swollen abapical tips, incised close above abapical suture resulting in weak angulation of whorl profile. Last whorl moderately convex above periphery, moderately constricted at base. Spiral sculpture of low spiral cords confined to base and siphonal fasciole. Aperture moderately wide. Anal canal moderately narrow, U-shaped. Outer lip thickened with strongly developed internal labial callus pad; about six prominent denticles, more strongly developed over pad. Siphonal canal moderately narrow, short, shallowly notched at tip. Columellar callus forming narrow rim, sharply delimited from base, with three prominent denticles on middle portion of outer columellar edge. Parietal callus slightly thickened.
Shell measurements and ratios. SL: 4.8–7.5 mm, MD: 2.1–3.4 mm, AA: 42–58°, SL/MD: 2.1–2.3, AL/AW: 3.1–3.4, LWH/AH: 1.3.
Discussion. The lectotype of Costoanachis latecostata ( Boettger, 1902) is characterised by swollen, somewhat drop-shaped axial ribs. In typical C. subcorrugata Boettger, 1906 the axial ribs are slightly less blunt, but are identical in general shape including the marked incision below the abapical tips of the axial ribs. Moreover, the protoconch and the sculpture of the first teleoconch whorl are identical in the lectotypes of C. latecostata and C. subcorrugata . Therefore, Columbella (Anachis) subcorrugata Boettger, 1906 is considered to be subjective junior synonym of Columbella (Anachis) guembeli var. latecostata Boettger, 1902 .
Csepreghy-Meznerics (1969) proposed Pyrene (Anachis) guembeli buekkense as new name for the specimen described by Hoernes & Auinger (1880, pl. 11, figs 10a–c) and clearly designated that specimen from Forchtenau ( Austria) as type specimen. Therefore, the specimens from Borsodbóta ( Hungary), described and illustrated by Csepreghy-Meznerics (1969), can not be treated as syntypes as proposed by Palfy et al. (2008).
In our opinion, the holotype of Costoanachis bukkensis is conspecific with Costoanachis latecostata ( Boettger, 1902) , and therefore, Pyrene (Anachis) guembeli buekkense Csepreghy-Meznerics, 1969 is a subjective junior synonym of Columbella (Anachis) guembeli latecostata Boettger, 1902 .
Anachis (Costoanachis) subcorrugata Venzo & Pelosio, 1963 is a junior homonym. The species from the Tortonian of Italy differs clearly from Costoanachis subcorrugata ( Boettger, 1906) in its numerous and close-set axial ribs (see Venzo & Pelosio 1963: pl. 35, figs 22a–c). To solve the homonymy, we propose Costoanachis venzoi nom. nov. as replacement name for the Tortonian species.
Palaeoenvironment. Unknown.
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (middle Miocene): Carpathian Foredeep: Korytnica ( Poland) ( Bałuk 1995); Eisenstadt-Sopron Basin: Forchtenau ( Austria) ( Hoernes & Auinger 1880); Făget Basin: Coşteiu de Sus, Lăpugiu de Sus ( Romania) ( Boettger 1906).
