Dolichestola monnei View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 8–10 View FIGURES 6 – 10. 6 – 7 )

Description. Holotype female. Integument dark-brown, except for: oblique, slightly distinct reddish-brown band on elytra, from near base to distal third; distal quarter of elytra slightly reddish-brown; palpomeres reddish-brown, more yellowish toward apex; antennomeres V–XI yellowish on about basal half, with remaining surface reddishbrown; scape, pedicel and brown; antennomeres III–IV slightly reddish on base; tarsi reddish-brown.

Head. Frons moderately coarsely, abundantly punctate throughout; pubescence yellowish-brown, distinctly not obliterating integument; with long, erect, sparse setae. Area between antennal tubercles and upper eye lobes depressed; punctures and pubescence as on frons, with sparse, erect setae. Vertex moderately coarsely, densely punctate; pubescence yellowish-brown (centrally more yellowish), forming transverse band close to upper eye lobes; remaining surface with very short, sparse setae. Longitudinal sulcus not distinct. Antennal tubercles microsculptured; with very short, sparse setae. Area behind eyes moderately coarsely, abundantly punctate; with band with yellowish-brown pubescence close to eye, very short, sparse toward prothorax. Genae coarsely punctate, pubescent close to eyes, glabrous, smooth toward apex. Submentum pubescent, but not densely. Distance between upper eye lobes 0.5 times length of scape; distance between lower eye lobes in frontal view 0.9 times length of scape. Antennae as long as 1.55 times elytral length; reaching elytral apex at about middle of antennomere X; pubescence on antennomeres III–XI dorsally whitish on basal third, yellowish on remaining surface; antennomeres III–XI with long, sparse setae ventrally (mainly on III); antennal formula based on antennomere III: scape = 1.09; pedicel = 0.27; IV = 1.33; V = 0.91; VI = 0.85; VII = 0.76; VIII = 0.76; IX = 0.69; X = 0.60; XI = 0.67.

Thorax. Prothorax transverse, 1.45 times as wide as long including lateral tubercles, about 1.2 times excluding lateral tubercles; with long, spiniform tubercle at basal half of lateral sides. Pronotum coarsely, deeply, abundantly punctate throughout; pubescence yellowish-brown (interspersed with some white setae, more distinct in the paratype), distinctly not obliterating integument, denser, longer centrally, notably shorter, sparser laterally (mainly on basal half); with long, moderately abundant erect setae. Lateral sides of prothorax coarsely, deeply, abundantly punctate; with very short, sparse setae, almost glabrous toward ventral side. Prosternum coarsely, deeply, abundantly punctate; with distinct, white pubescence centrally, with yellowish-brown, very short, sparse setae laterally. Prosternal process with white pubescence on basal half, with very small, sparse, white setae on remaining surface; narrow centrally, about as wide as 0.5 times base of profemoral peduncle. Mesosternum coarsely, abundantly punctate, centrally with not dense, whitish and yellowish-brown pubescence. Metasternum coarsely, deeply, abundantly punctate; with very short, sparse setae, entirely exposing integument. Scutellum with yellowish-brown pubescence, not obliterating integument. Elytra coarsely, abundantly punctate throughout; pubescence mostly yellowish-brown, with sparse white pubescence along suture (more distinct along suture in paratype, and forming sparse, irregular spots in other areas); with long, thick, moderately abundant setae throughout; apex individually rounded.

Abdomen. Ventrites moderately finely, sparsely punctate; with yellowish-brown pubescence, more conspicuous centrally on I–IV; ventrite V flat centrally. Legs. Femora with sparse, whitish pubescence dorsally, interspersed with long setae. Tibiae with short, moderately sparse setae on basal third (interspersed with long setae), distinctly longer toward apex. Metatarsomere I about as long as II–III together

Dimensions (mm). Holotype female/ paratype female. Total length (including mandibles), 6.10/5.45; prothoracic length, 1.25/1.05; anterior prothoracic width, 1.10/1.05; basal prothoracic width, 1.00/1.00; largest prothoracic width, 1.45/1.35; humeral width, 1.75/1.65; elytral length, 4.35/3.85.

Type material. Holotype female from URUGUAY, Colonia: Piedra de los Indios, 20.XII.1985, G.A. Wibmer col. ( MNRJ). Paratype female from BRAZIL, Rio Grande do Sul: Pelotas, 23.XII.1952, C. Biezanko col. ( MZSP).

Etymology. The new species is named after Miguel A. Monné (MNRJ).

Remarks. Dolichestola monnei sp. nov. is similar to D. birai , but differs mainly by the pubescence on thorax and head distinctly not obliterating integument.
