Length. Male 7.70 mm; female unknown.
External morphology. Medium size, robust species. General color black and yellow. Forewings with yellow veins on middle of clavus; mesonotum with yellow lateral margins, large yellow spot on each side of middle; pronotum with broken yellow band on anterior margin, small contiguous yellow spots below anterior margin; crown with yellow lateral margins, yellow longitudinal stripe medially; face yellow, broad reddish brown stripe on lateral margins of clypeus and clypellus, black stripe below each eye ( Plate 4H). Head narrower than pronotum, anterior margin broadly rounded; crown broad, slightly narrower than width of eyes, produced distally about ¼ entire length, lateral margins convergent, slightly carinate, disk elevated, depressed on each side of middle; eyes large, semiglobular; pronotum slightly shorter than median length of crown; mesonotum large, about twice as long as median length of pronotum; forewings typical; clypeus long, narrow, lateral margins broadly convex; clypellus short, about 1/3 as long as clypeus, narrow, base inflated, lateral margins constricted medially.
Male genitalia. Pygofer in lateral view triangulate, small digitate lobe caudoventrally ( Fig. 258); subgenital plate long, narrow, few short setae apically ( Fig. 259); style robust, shorter than aedeagus, outer lateral margin broadly expanded and convex in lateral view, small digitate lobe distally ( Figs. 260, 261); aedeagus long, tubular, with distinctive long laminate spine subbasally, two narrow spines subapically ( Figs. 262, 263); connective broadly Y-shaped, membranous on each side of middle, stem very short, broad ( Fig. 264); dorsal connective long, strap shape ( Fig. 265), attached to base of aedeagal socle ( Fig. 262).
Material examined. Holotype male. COLOMBIA: Vaupés, R.N. Mosiro-Itajura (Caparú), Centro Ambiental , 1º4’S.– 69º31’W., 60 m., Malaise, 1/20/03–2/1-03, M. Sharkey & D. Arias, leg., M.3386 ( IAHC). GoogleMaps
Etymology. The name is descriptive for the distinctive medial process on the aedeagus.
Remarks. This species is most closely related in genitalia features to E. lyrata , sp. nov. and can be distinguished by the prominent, laminate process on the aedeagus.
