Diagnostic characters. Stem acaulescent; leaf pinnate, 4–7 m long; petiole 2–4.2 m long and ca 4 cm in diam- eter; spines linear, white, clusters of 5–9, 3– 7 cm long.

Leaflets alternate, regular, 76–80 cm long, ca 5 cm wide, lanceolate, acuminate, serrated and terminal leaflets connate at base. Staminate inflorescence 1–1.3 m long; partial inflorescences 6 or 7 in number, 50–90 cm long; bract 5–7 cm long; rachillae alternate, 11–15 cm long; staminate flowers dyad, compactly arranged, red, and covered by a bracteole.
