Composition and distribution. The genus includes eight species: one species from Carrie Bow Cay, Belize ( D. magnifica Kornicker & Cohen 1978 View in CoL ), four species from the western Indian Ocean ( D. fossula Kornicker 1983 View in CoL , D. benthedi Kornicker 1983 View in CoL , D. piercei Kornicker 1983 View in CoL , D. dux Kornicker 1998 View in CoL in Kornicker & Thomassin 1998), one species from the Southwest Florida shelf ( D. heardi Kornicker 1986 View in CoL ), D. ferox Kornicker & Iliffe 1989d View in CoL from a sea cave on the island of Niue, central South Pacific, and D. tryx Kornicker 1994 View in CoL from off Southeast Australia. A key to species of the genus is presented in Kornicker and Thomassin 1998. A juvenile collected herein on the Great Bahama Bank is left in open nomenclature as Dantya sp. A .
