Drycothea stictica var. lepidiota Bates, 1885: 422 View in CoL .

Drycothaea stictica var. lepidiota View in CoL ; Monné, 2018: 443 (cat.).

According to Bates (1885) (translated): “Var. D. lepidiota . Lower eye lobes a little less rounded; mesoventral process slightly convex.”

After the original description, this variety has been listed under D. stictica in catalogs ( Aurivillius 1923; Gilmour 1965; Monné 1995; Monné 2005; Monné 2018) and checklists ( Blackwelder 1946; Chemsak et al. 1992; Monné & Giesbert 1994; Monné & Hovore 2006; Bezark 2018b), but was never formally synonymized.

According to ICZN (1999: 45.6.4), D. stictica lepidiota must, obligatorily, be considered as a subspecies. For the time being, it is not known if this subspecies is equal or different from D. stictica stictica (either as a subspecies or as a different species) without examination of the type series.
