Estoloides jaliscana View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 1–4 View FIGURES 1–8. 1–4 )

Description. Female. Integument mostly dark brown, almost black; labium mostly yellowish-brown, interspersed with dark areas; apex of palpomeres light yellowish-brown.

Head. Frons and vertex moderately coarsely, abundantly punctate (punctures slightly coarser and sparser on vertex); frons with dense yellowish-brown (more yellow depending on angle and intensity of light source) pubescence nearly obscuring integument, interspersed with moderately long, erect, abundant pale yellow setae, and long, erect brownish setae close to lower eye lobes; vertex with yellowish-brown pubescence, less dense and paler than on frons, interspersed with erect setae as on frons. Area behind eyes with sculpturing as on vertex behind upper eye lobes, nearly smooth on tumid area close to lower eye lobes, finely, abundantly punctate close to tumid area, smooth close to prothorax; with dense yellow pubescent band close to eye, pale yellowish-brown on remaining surface, except glabrous, gradually wider area close to prothorax behind lower eye lobes; with long, erect, pale yellow setae close to eye. Antennal tubercles moderately coarsely, abundantly punctate on base, gradually sparser toward narrow smooth apex; pubescence as on frons, interspersed with both, long (brownish basally, pale yellow toward apex) and moderately long erect setae (pale yellow). Median groove distinct from clypeus to prothoracic margin (partially obscured by pubescence toward clypeus). Genae minutely, moderately abundantly punctate except on narrow smooth distal area; with pale yellowish-brown pubescence not obscuring integument, except glabrous smooth area. Gulamentum smooth, glabrous posteriorly, striate-punctate, with sparse pale yellowish-brown pubescence interspersed with a few long, erect setae of same color anteriorly. Labrum coplanar with anteclypeus at posterior 2/3, inclined at anterior third; densely micropunctate interspersed with abundant slightly larger punctures; with yellowish-white pubescence not obscuring integument, interspersed with long pale yellow setae directed forward on posterior 2/3 (especially on anterior area of this region); with long golden setae directed forward on anterior third, and dense fringe of golden-brown setae at anterior margin. Distance between upper eye lobes 0.57 times length of scape (2.5 times width of one lobe); in frontal view, distance between lower eye lobes slight larger than length of scape. Antennae 1.75 times elytral length, reaching elytral apex at posterior quarter of antennomere VIII. Scape gradually widened internally from anterior fifth to apex; with pale yellowish-brown pubescence partially obscuring integument dorsally and laterally (more yellowish-white depending on angle of light source), grayish-white ventrally; with moderately short, sparse, dark erect setae dorsally, long, yellowish ventrally (longer and more abundant toward apex). Anterior half of antennomeres III–IV with yellowish-white pubescence on dorsal and lateral, brownish interspersed with minute yellowish and whitish decumbent setae on dorsal and lateral sides of posterior half, except narrow distal area with yellowish-white pubescence; ventral side of antennomeres III–IV with grayish-white pubescence, and long, erect, moderately abundant yellowish setae. Remaining antennomeres with grayish-white pubescent ring on anterior third (sometimes almost reaching middle), brownish on remaining surface, except narrow posterior ring with grayishwhite pubescence on V–X); with long, erect setae ventrally, yellowish on V, gradually shorter, darkened toward XI. Antennal formula (ratio) based on length of antennomere III: scape = 0.69; pedicel = 0.14; IV = 1.05; V = 0.83; VI = 0.77; VII = 0.68; VIII = 0.64; IX = 0.60; X = 0.52; XI = 0.50.

Thorax. Prothorax 1.4 times wider than long (including lateral tubercles); lateral tubercle large, placed slightly after middle, with apex acute. Pronotum with three slightly distinct gibbosities, one more distinct, subcircular, placed on each side of middle, another less distinct, elongate, placed centrally at posterior half; coarsely, abundantly punctate except on nearly smooth central gibbosity; with light yellowish-brown pubescence partially obscuring integument, except narrow, transverse yellowish-white pubescence close to center of posterior margin; with short, erect, moderately sparse dark setae, and a few long, erect yellowish setae. Sides of prothorax with sculpturing and pubescence as on sides of pronotum. Ventral side of thorax with pale yellowish-brown pubescence, abundant but not obscuring integument (slightly denser on sides of mesothorax); with long, erect, sparse yellowish setae. Scutellum with yellow pubescence obscuring integument, especially toward posterior margin. Elytra. Coarsely, abundantly punctate on anterior third, gradually finer, sparser toward apex; with pale yellow pubescence nearly obscuring integument, interspersed with irregular areas with sparser pubescence, larger on anterocentral area; with short, abundant erect brownish setae throughout, longer, more yellow on sides of posterior third; apex rounded. Legs. Femora with pale yellow pubescence partially obscuring integument, interspersed with long, erect setae of same color. Tibiae with yellowish-brown (more yellow depending on angle and intensity of light source) pubescence dorsally, partially obscuring integument, gradually bristly toward apex, grayish-yellow laterally and ventrally, interspersed with long, erect yellowish-brown setae.

Abdomen. Ventrites with pale yellow pubescence not obscuring integument, distinctly more yellow on apex of ventrites I–IV, yellowish-white on posterocentral area of V; posterior quarter of ventrite V distinctly depressed and slightly longitudinally sulcate centrally; posterior margin of ventrite V deeply, triangularly emarginate.

Dimensions (mm). Total length, 14.90; prothoracic length, 2.75; posterior prothoracic width, 2.80; anterior prothoracic width, 2.75; maximum prothoracic width (between apices of lateral tubercles), 3.80; humeral width, 4.65; elytral length, 11.10.

Type Material. Holotype female from MEXICO, Jalisco: Sierra de Talpa (1655 m), 17-18.VII.2010, G. Nogueira col. ( CNIN).

Remarks. Estoloides jaliscana sp. nov. is similar to E. prolongata ( Bates, 1885) , but differs as follows (females): larger size (14.9 mm); antennae distinctly surpassing elytral apex; distance between upper eye lobes 2.5 times width of one lobe; ommatidia smaller and upper eye lobes with 8–9 rows of ommatidia; and abdominal ventrite V deeply triangularly emarginate posteriorly. In E. prolongata , the size is smaller (less than 10 mm), antennae very slightly surpassing elytral apex, distance between upper eye lobes 1.6 times width of one lobe, ommatidia coarser, and upper eye lobes with 6 rows of ommatidia, and abdominal ventrite V not emarginate posteriorly.

Etymology. Named for the state of Jalisco in Mexico where the type was collected.
