Polystichum putuoense Li Bing Zhang View in CoL , comb. & nom. nov.

Replaced synonyms:— Nephrodium faberi Baker (1891: 316 , 318); Cyrtomidictyum faberi (Baker) Ching (1957: 259 , 265. t. 54). Type:— CHINA. Zhejiang: Ningbo, Putuo Island (“Insula Puto”), E. Faber 205 (holotype K).

When this species is transferred to Polystichum , the original epithet “ faberi ” is blocked by Polystichum faberi Christ (1909: 37) .

This species is very similar to P. lepidocaulon (Hook.) J.Sm. , but its pinna margins have acute teeth (vs. entire in P. lepidocaulon ) and it has one row of sori on each side of the midrib (vs. two rows in P. lepidocaulon ). The trnL-F and rbcL sequences of the two species are only slightly different, but P. lepidocaulon has a 16-basepair insertion in the rps4-trnS sequence when compared with P. putuoense ( Liu et al. 2010) .

This species occurs in Zhejiang, China.
