Ivanov, 1996: 166, nomen novum for Scleroderma Ivanov, 1995: 73 [non Westwood, 1839 (in Hymenoptera)].

Type species: Scleroderma latispiculata Ivanov, 1995 ( OD) .

Diagnosis: Planes of sclerite base and blade at slight or great angle to each other, with blade bent somewhat or sharply outwards from body ( Fig. 15M View FIGURE 15 ). Longitudinal axis straight. Blade narrow with keel, edges straight and tapered or slightly convex at distinct waist, sharply pointed distally. Base very broad, plane of base curved transversely towards body; isochromes almost symmetrical. One or two rows of oral shield sclerites.

Distribution: Continental slope and rise between 545 and 3,640 m: Indopacific (western Indian Ocean, Bismarck Archipelago); northeast Pacific, 5,122 m; eastern Atlantic south of 10°N ( Cape Verde Basin) to Cape Basin; western Atlantic south of 35°N from off North Carolina and the east coast of Florida to the Gulf of Mexico and Guiana Basin ( Ivanov, 1995; Scheltema & Ivanov, 2000; Ivanov & Scheltema, 2001a; including unpublished data).

Composition: N. captainkiddae n. sp.; N. hystrix Scheltema & Ivanov, 2000 ; N. latispiculata ( Ivanov, 1995) ; N. liliae Ivanov & Scheltema, 2001 .
