Mexico to Panama to Venezuela, French Guiana, Brazil; widespread Antillesand Latin America . Notes. Genitalia of the Lesser Antilles specimens (CMNC) match the figures of Copelatus insulanus Guignot given by Legros (1948: 106) so that species could be a synonym of Copelatus posticatus .

Epler (2010: 5. 45) notes that Copelatus glyphicus (Say) is a more northern species, and genitalic illustrations of it do not match the Lesser Antilles specimens.
