Coenosia leucospila Wiedemann, 1830: 441 View in CoL .

Lispa eidsvoldica Malloch, 1925a: 336 View in CoL ; Lee, Crust & Sabrosky, 1956: 315.

Lispe eidsvoldica .— Séguy, 1937: 183; Pont, 1989: 693.

Lispe leucospila .— Vikhrev, 2014: 150.

Type-material. The lectotype ♂ of Coenosia leucospila , is in ZMUC, designated by Lyneborg (1970: 44). It was also reviewed by Pont (1997: 102). The taxonomy of this species and its immediate relatives was discussed in detail by Vikhrev (2014).

The holotype ♂ of L. eidsvoldica , from Eidsvold, is in ANIC and was examined in the course of this revision. It lacks right mid tibia+tarsus but is otherwise in good condition. It is labelled as type by Malloch. A ♀ paratype from Eidsvold, the ♀ paratype from Marwood, and the ♂ paratype from Hughenden have been examined in the USNM. The allotype and 1♀ paratype from Eidsvold have not been located.

Diagnosis. This species, together with L. uniseta and L. vikhrevi , differs from other Australian Lispe by the presence of a single strong prst dc seta. L. leucospila differs from L. uniseta and L. vikhrevi by the very narrow gena ( Fig. 379 View FIGURES 379–383 ), absence of pd seta on hind tibia, and, in the ♂, by the presence of fine pv setae in apical half of hind tibia ( Fig. 383 View FIGURES 379–383 ) and a comb of spinose pv setulae in apical third of mid femur ( Fig. 382 View FIGURES 379–383 ).

Fronto-orbital plate yellowish-white pruinose, brownish above, and subshining at vertex; parafacial and face yellowish-white pruinose, usually and mostly overlaid with brown; gena and lower half of occiput silvery pruinose, occiput with an undusted patch at mid length; vertex broadly shining, especially behind ocellar tubercle. Frontal triangle narrow, dull, brown. Parafacial very narrow, less than half width of postpedicel; setulose along whole length. Antenna black, except tip of pedicel and base of postpedicel which are conspicuously orange; postpedicel 2.5 (♂) or 2.3 (♀) times as long as broad, falling short of mouth-margin by 0.8 (♂) or 0.6 (♀) its length. Arista long-plumose, the hairing at widest point 2.0 (♂) or 2.2 (♀) times width of postpedicel. Vibrissa strong. Gena narrow, 0.06 of vertical eye-length; genal setae strong, sparse. Proboscis relatively short and stout. Palpus yellow, greatly swollen in apical half ( Fig. 381 View FIGURES 379–383 ).

Thorax. Ground-colour black. Scutum and scutellum yellowish-grey dusted, postpronotal lobe and pleura grey. Scutum with a broad brown median vitta running from neck to tip of scutellum, becoming broader and darker behind, and a pair of broad paramedian vittae, running from neck to tip of postalar calli, occupying the space between ia and sa and also enclosing these setae, mostly subshining but with a thin line of brown dust running along inside edge of each vitta and along suture, the median and paramedian vittae each much broader than the dusted vitta separating them, except before suture in some males; scutellum with grey dusted areas restricted to sides, outside the basal lateral setae. Pleura with a brown dusted band running over lower half of postpronotal lobe, most of anepisternum, and anepimeron. Anterior spiracle brownish. Acr setulae in 4–5 irregular rows at suture. Dc 1+4, prst seta closer to suture than to neck and behind level of prst ia, anterior 2 post setae short and at most 3 times as long as a ground-setula. 2 pprn, inner seta short. 1+0–1 ia, post seta short or absent. 1+1 sa, both strong. 1 strong and 1 weaker proepisternal setae. 1 strong proepimeral, equal to the strong proepisternal, with 2–3 adjacent setulae. Anepisternum with 1 short setula in upper anterior corner; posterior row with 2 strong and 3-4 weak setae. 3 strong kepst, lower one slightly closer to posterior than to anterior seta. Meron bare. Scutellum with disc densely setulose, with 1–2 setulae below level of the strong setae; ventral surface bare.

Legs. Coxae partly (♂) and trochanters mainly yellow; femora black except at tips; tibiae yellow; basal tarsomeres yellow, remaining tarsomeres becoming darker. Fore coxa bare behind. Fore femur bare on av surface; pv row complete, entire row (♀) or only apical 3 setae (♂) equal to femoral depth; pd row complete. Fore tibia with 1 submedian pv seta; with d, pd and pv apical setae, and in ♀ with a short p apical too. Fore tarsomeres without modifications. Mid femur in ♂ with short spinulose setulae along av surface, these close together in apical quarter; on pv surface in ♂ with a row of short setae that become short, spinulose and comb-like on apical third ( Fig. 382 View FIGURES 379–383 ); ventral surfaces in ♀ only with simple short setulae; 1 a at middle; 2 p preapicals. Mid tibia with 1 submedian p; the ventral ground-setulae spinulose on basal quarter in ♂; with strong ad, v, pv, p, and weaker pd apicals. Mid tarsomeres without modifications. Hind coxa without a seta on posterior apical margin. Hind femur in ♂ with a row of fine setae on basal half of pv surface, culminating in a longer seta at middle, the preceding ones not equal to femoral depth, these absent in ♀, both sexes with 1 short preapical pv; on av surface with 1 submedian and 1 preapical seta; ad row complete; pd preapical absent. Hind tibia with 1 ad and 1 av, sometimes 2 av (rarely even 3) in ♂; pv surface in ♂ with a series of 5-8 erect fine setae on apical half, longer than tibial depth ( Fig. 383 View FIGURES 379–383 ); d and ad preapical setae present; 1 av but no pv apical. Hind tarsomeres not modified.

Wing. Usually clear, but sometimes strikingly infuscated, to varying degrees and to a varying extent. Tegula and basicosta yellow. Crossvein r-m placed slightly beyond the point where vein R1 enters costa; dm-cu straight (♂) or slightly sinuous (♀), longer than apical section of vein CuA1. Vein M running straight to wing-margin. Calypters white, with creamy margins. Knob of haltere dark brown.

Abdomen. Ground-colour black. Dust on tergites grey. Tergites mostly black, subshining or matt according to point-of-view, the grey dust restricted to a pair of lateral spots on each tergite in ♂ ( Figs 384, 386 View FIGURES 384–387 ), these spots reduced in ♀ and often extremely so ( Fig. 385 View FIGURES 384–387 ). ♂ epandrium matt, black. ♀ ovipositor with exposed tergites shining. Sternites 1–5 grey dusted, but sternite 4 only thinly so in ♂. Setae weakly developed, only tergite 5 with erect setae, 1 pair of lateral discals and 2 of marginals, these very weak in ♀. Sternite 4 of ♂ covered with dense setulae, otherwise sternites 2–5 with only sparse setulae; setulae on sternite 1 usually absent ( Fig. 387 View FIGURES 384–387 ).

Ƌ terminalia. Epandrium separated from tergite 5 by a narrow syntergosternite 8, which has 2 spiracles. Tergite 6 and sternite 6 absent. Surstylus absent, i.e. fused to epandrium without trace (Fig. 388). Cercal plate deeply divided ventrally (Fig. 389). Hypandrium attached at two points: to a rod originating from wall of epandrium close to upper outer edge of cercal plate; and via an apparent praegonite to lower anterior corner of epandrium. Phallic complex (Fig. 390): hypandrium short and narrow; praegonite and postgonite present, the latter relatively long and bulbous, the former short and lobe-like; phallapodeme connected to hypandrium by a pair of bridges, and forked posteriorly to flank the broad epiphallus; phallus broad, short, simple, juxta large, without spinules; basal part flanked with a large finger-like process.
