Perognathus inornatus Merriam 1889 View in CoL
Perognathus inornatus Merriam 1889 View in CoL , N. Amer. Fauna, 1: 15.
Type Locality: USA, California, Fresno Co., Fresno.
Vernacular Names: San Joaquin Pocket Mouse.
Subspecies: :
Subspecies Perognathus inornatus subsp. inornatus Merriam 1889
Subspecies Perognathus inornatus subsp. neglectus Taylor 1912
Subspecies Perognathus inornatus subsp. psammophilus von Bloeker 1937
Distribution: Sacramento, San Joaquin and Salinas valleys and adjacent foothills, and western Mojave Desert, of California ( USA).
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (nt) as P. i. neglectus and P. i. psammophilus; otherwise Lower Risk (lc).
Discussion: Revised by Osgood (1918); subspecies listed by Williams et al. (1993) who allocated psammophilus (with sillimani as a synonym) to this species, not to longimembris where this name has been usually placed ( Hall, 1981; Patton, 1993 b). As noted by Williams et al. (1993), at least two and possibly three distinct species are currently included under the name inornatus . Reviewed by Best (1993 e, Mammalian Species No. 450).
