Types. Holotype, ovigerous female, 12.0 mm, AM P.69627, Fortescue Bay, Tasmania, Australia (43°2.0’S 147°57.0’E), 25/01/1941, coll. I.S. Munro from the FRV Warreen . Paratypes, 2 specimens, 5.0–9.0 mm, AM P.69628, same collection data as holotype.
Etymology. Named for the Fisheries Research Vessel Warreen which surveyed the continental shelf and slope in the late 1930s and early 1940s and from which the types of this species were collected. Used as a noun in apposition.
Diagnostic description. Head lateral cephalic lobe large, narrowly rounded. Antenna 1 peduncular article 1 without anterodistal projection. Labrum, epistome and upper lip fused. Mandible palp article 2 anterodistal margin setose; article 3 with marginal and apical setae. Labium without apical stylets on each lobe. Gnathopod 1 subchelate; basis anterior margin with slender setae; propodus posterior margin minutely crenate distally. Gnathopod 2 minutely chelate; carpus long; propodus palm obtuse, straight; dactylus fitting palm. Pereopod 6 basis posteroventral margin rounded. Pereopod 7 basis, posterior margin slightly rounded, minutely crenate, posteroventral margin straight to slightly rounded. Epimeron 3 posteroventral corner narrowly rounded. Urosomites 1–3 dorsally smooth. Uropod 1 rami subequal in length; uropod 2 rami subequal in length; uropod 3 inner ramus shorter than outer ramus, not reaching article 2 of outer ramus.
Depth range. 5– 9 m.
Remarks. Waldeckia warreen sp. nov. is easily distinguished from all other species of Waldeckia in having a subchelate gnathopod 1.
Distribution. Australia: Fortescue Bay, Tasmania.
