Etymology. Named for the Selayar Islands, Indonesia, close to the type locality.
Diagnostic description. Head lateral cephalic lobe large, broadly rounded. Antenna 1 peduncular article 1 without anterodistal projection. Labrum, epistome and upper lip fused. Mandible palp article 2 anterodistal margin setose; article 3 with marginal and apical setae. Labium without apical stylets on each lobe. Gnathopod 1 parachelate; basis anterior margin with slender setae; propodus posterior margin smooth. Gnathopod 2 subchelate; carpus long; propodus palm transverse, concave; dactylus not fitting palm. Pereopod 6 basis posteroventral margin rounded. Pereopod 7 basis, posterior margin slightly rounded, serrate, posteroventral margin straight. Epimeron 3 posteroventral corner narrowly rounded. Urosomites 1–3 dorsally smooth. Uropod 1 rami subequal in length; uropod 2 rami subequal in length; uropod 3 inner ramus shorter than outer ramus, reaching to article 2 of outer ramus.
Depth range. 27– 400 m.
Remarks. Pirlot (1936) originally recorded this species as Waldeckia kroyeri kroyeri . We have re-examined the material described by him and concluded that it in fact represents a distinct species. Although the differences between the taxa are subtle, W. selayarensis sp. nov. can be distinguished from W. kroyeri by the more rounded shape of the posteroventral margin of the pereopod 6 basis, the broader palm and larger, more slender dactylus of gnathopod 2, and the subequal lengths of the uropod 2 rami. The body size of W. selayarensis sp. nov. is also noticeably smaller than that of W. kroyeri .
Distribution. Australia: North West Shelf, Western Australia. Indonesia: Paternoster Islands; Postillon Islands; Molo Strait; Banda Sea; Waigeo Island.
