Type species: Clinotanypus fuscosignatus ( Kieffer, 1910: 218) .

Generic diagnosis: Based on the material examined and on literature, the generic diagnosis of male Clinotanypus given by Murray and Fittkau (1989) is corrected as follows: wing length 1.71–4.0 mm (1.71 mm in C. vomerus Chaudhuri et Debnath, 1984 ; 4.0 mm in C. claripennis Kieffer, 1918 ); antennal ratio 2.0–4.1 (2.0 in C. lampronotus Kieffer, 1916 ; 4.1 in C. sugiyamai Tokunaga, 1937 ); preapical pseudospurs present on ta 1– ta 2 or ta 1– ta 3 of mid- and hind legs (pseudospurs present on ta 3 in 4 of the new species); megaseta present or absent (absent in C. dismegasetus sp. n.).
