Diagnosis. FEMALE. The female differs from those of the other species by having the combination of the following characteristics: the outer apicoventral corner of the hind femur rounded ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 D); the transverse groove on S2 nearly straight ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 E, arrow); and T1 with a long parallel-sided portion basally ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 C). MALE. The male differs from those of the other species by having the peculiar configuration of the subgenital plate ( Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 F, 8F) and genitalia ( Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 H, I).

Redescription. FEMALE (measurements of the holotype are given in parentheses). Length: body 5.7−7.7(7.8) mm; fore wing 4.9–6.6(6.1) mm. Head and mesosoma matte, metasoma subpolished. Body and legs black; following brown: apical half of mandible (sometimes yellowish brown; apex rufous), malar space, labrum, palpi, antenna beneath, lateral margin of pronotum, posterolateral margin of metanotum, laterotergum, posterior and lateral margins of metasomal terga and sterna, fore tibia, fore tarsus beneath and each segment of legs apically. Fore wing inner fascia weak on second abscissa of vein M (basal vein), outer fascia distinct, narrowly infuscate apically ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 B).

Frons densely punctate, hence shagreened appearance in large specimens, more sparsely punctate and interspace of punctures polished in small specimens. Pronotum and mesoscutum densely and regularly punctate. Scutellum and disc of metanotum more sparsely punctate than mesoscutum, interspace of punctures polished. Metanotum densely and regularly striate laterally. Mesepisternum finely and evenly punctate. Upper metapleuron finely and densely striate, interspace of striae punctate. Lower metapleuron densely punctate. Propodeum strongly and densely punctate, interspace of punctures mostly less than their diameter, hence shagreened appearance in large specimens, more sparsely punctate and interspace of punctures polished in small specimens. Metasomal terga finely punctate, interspace of punctures smooth and polished on T1 and T2, finely and weakly alutaceous on following terga.

Body covered with fine, appressed, light brown to white pubescence, that being long and dense on propodeum posterolaterally. Setae on vertex and propodeum gray to white, those on clypeus, labrum, mandible and metasoma distally yellowish to light brown.

Head 1.0–1.2(1.1) × as broad as long. Vertex moderately convex between eye tops ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A). Upper frons gently convex; half of MID 1.5–1.9 × as broad as eye; frontal line vague or indistinguishable above, sharply impressed below. Inner orbits convergent above, nearly parallel or slightly convergent below. Ratio of UID:MID:LID = 7.2–7.9:10:8.8–9.4(7.5:10:9.4). Ocelli large; ocellar triangle acute-angled, slightly raised. Ratio of POL:OOL = 1:1.0–1.3(1.2). Occipital margin weakly concave ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 B). Gena in dorsal view rather strongly receding posteriorly, in profile 0.4–0.6(0.4) × as broad as eye, broadest below middle. Clypeus large, convex transversely, 2.3–2.5(2.5) × as broad as long; lateral angle broadly rounded; apical rim feebly depressed, impunctate but alutaceous; apical margin straight or slightly emarginate ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A). Apical margin of labrum nearly straight medially. Mandible normal. F1 2.4–2.8(2.7) × as long as thick, 0.48–0.60(0.52) × UID.

Pronotum with anterior declivity not distinctly differentiated from dorsum, nearly vertical ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 C); lateral margin gradually convergent anteriorly; shoulder broadly rounded; junction between dorsal and lateral faces broadly rounded, not carinate; posterior margin as a whole arcuate but subangulate at middle. Mesoscutum slightly raised anteromedially; posterolateral margin reflexed; parapsidal sulcus strongly impressed. Discs of scutellum and metanotum evenly flattened, slightly raised on level of mesoscutum and propodeum ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 C). Propodeum strongly convex; posterior declivity rather flattened; median line finely impressed or vaguely and broadly grooved; posterior declivity with several short erect white setae in addition to pubescence laterally.

Fore wing ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 B) with SMC 2 receiving crossvein 1m-cu at basal 0.52–0.63(0.58); SMC3 1.1–1.6(1.3) × as long as SMC2 on vein M, 0.70–1.1(0.85) × as long as SMC2 on vein Rs, narrowed on vein Rs by 0.38–0.48(0.45) × its length on vein M, receiving crossvein 2m-cu at basal 0.26–0.37(0.37). Crossvein 2m-cu distinctly curved posteriorly. Crossvein 3rs-m sinuate. Crossvein cu-a originating a little posteriorly to fork of M+CuA.

T1 not petiolate, with long parallel-sided petiole ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 C), with inconspicuous short setae. S1 except base punctate, not rugulose ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 E). Transverse groove on S2 nearly straight. S6 carinate at midline.

Tarsal claws with small tooth submedially.

Description. MALE (hitherto unknown). Length: body 4.5–6.5 mm; fore wing 3.9–5.3 mm. Body and legs black; following light to dark brown: labrum, apical half of mandible, palpi, flagellum beneath, lateral and posterior margins of pronotum, tegula, laterotergum, lateral and posterior margins of metasomal terga and sterna, fore femur apically, fore tibia and its spur (occasionally yellowish brown) and fore tarsus. Fore wing inner fascia obsolete; outer fascia weak.

Head and mesosoma more strongly punctate than in female. Interspace of punctures on frons and clypeus alutaceous. Propodeum with strong dense punctures, those being somewhat sparser anterolaterally, without transverse rugulae posteriorly; median groove finely impressed but sometimes indistinct. Metasoma more strongly and coarsely punctate than in female.

Body covered with fine, appressed, grayish-white to pale brown pubescence, that being dense and silvery on lower frons, clypeus, pronotum lateroventrally, propleuron, mesepisternum, mesosternum, metapleuron ventrally, propodeum posterolaterally and coxae. Erect setae scanty; vertex with a few short pale brown setae along inner orbit. Metasoma with short light brown setae.

Head in frontal view 1.1–1.2 × as broad as long. Ratio of UID:MID:LID = 8.2–8.8:10:8.1–8.5. Half of MID 1.3–1.7 × eye width. Ocelli large; ocellar triangle right-angled. Ratio of POL:OOL = 1:0.80–1.2. Oblique furrow running from lateral ocellus to eye shallow or obsolete. Clypeus 2.3–2.4 × as wide as long; apical rim not distinctly set off from main surface but slightly depressed, strongly alutaceous. Gena in dorsal view more roundly receding than in female, in profile 0.6–0.7 × eye width, broadest at middle. Ratio of F1 and F2 = 1:1.0–1.2; F1 1.7–2.0 × as long as thick and 0.33–0.42 × as long as UID.

Pronotum with posterior margin broadly subangulate medially; lateral margins distinctly convergent anteriorly. Discs of scutellum and metanotum raised above level of mesoscutum and propodeum. Metapostnotum arcuately emarginate posteromedially.

Fore wing SMC2 receiving crossvein 1m-cu at basal 0.48–0.61. Fore wing SMC3 1.1–1.7 × as long as SMC2 on vein M, 0.66–1.0 × as long as SMC2 on vein Rs, narrowed on vein Rs by 0.25–0.65 × its length on vein M, receiving crossvein 2m-cu at basal 0.33–0.45.

Tarsal claws with triangular tooth preapically.

S1 without longitudinal striae medially as in female. Transverse groove on S2 subangulate. Paired lateral hooks on S6 comparatively broad, with small, apically rounded claw-like projection ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 F); posterior margin of S6 between hooks semicircularly emarginate. Exposed portion of subgenital plate strongly compressed laterally with ventral face flattened and subpolished, tapering toward apex, hence triangular appearance in ventral view ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 F–G); basal portion of subgenital plate squarely extended laterally with short blunt projection directed caudad ( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 F).

Genitalia ( Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 H–I): basal half of paramere broad with numerous dense setae ventrally; apical half slender and curved outward with two long setae at apex; digitus volsellaris thin and slender, slightly curved outward; parapenial lobe slender; aedeagus not extending beyond apex of digitus volsellaris.

Distribution. Japan (Hokkaido and Honshu).

Biology. Reared from bamboo trap nests. Brood-parasitizes Deuteragenia sperconsa , D. conspersa , D. romankovae and Auplopus carbonarius ( Shimizu et al. 2012) . Appeared in late April to early October.
