Type genus: Helophorus Fabricius, 1775 [the original spelling Elophorus Fabricius, 1775 was considered an incorrect original spelling and placed on the Official Index of Rejected and Invalid Generic Names in Zoology (ICZN 1993b); Helophorus Fabricius, 1775 was placed on the Official List of Generic Names in Zoology (ICZN 1993b)]. Comment: published in April 1815; incorrect original stem formation, not in prevailing usage; this family-group name was also used in the same year by Rafinesque (1815 [between April 1815 and 21 July 1815]: 112, as Elophoria ).
