New collection record: Panama: Canal Zone , Barro Colorado, leaf litter, 9° 10' N, 79° 50' W, 19 ii – 9 iii 1975, Lawrence, Erwin (1 MCZ) GoogleMaps .
Differential diagnosis. The habitus of E. panamensis ( Fig. 34) is very similar to that of several other members of the Costatus group; reliable determinations will be based on examination of the aedeagus. The aedeagus is somewhat similar to that of E. punctipennis ( Figs. 39, 62); differing therefrom in having a narrower and longer median lobe, a wider and longer basal piece, and wider and differently shaped parameres. The aedeagus of E. panamensis also has a larger striate collar. Externally ( Figs. 34, 58) the two species differ in color ( E. panamensis is brown, E. punctipennis is reddish), and E. panamensis has much smaller elytral punctures and larger elytral granules linking the punctures.
Distribution. Currently known only from Panama ( Fig. 143).
