Stenichnus (Stenichnus) dividus Kurbatov View in CoL

( Figs 28–32 View FIGURES 28–32 )

Stenichnus dividus Kurbatov, 1993: 592 View in CoL . Here placed in Stenichnus View in CoL s. str.

Material studied. JAPAN, Fukushima Prefecture: 1 ♁, “Ohkawa Rs. / Kawanami V. / Kita-Aizu D. / 9. IV. 1949 / Y. K.” ( NSMT) .

Distribution. Russian Far East (Primorsky Krai), Japan: eastern Honshu.

Remarks. The label data of the Japanese specimen (cited verbatim) refer to Yiji, Aizu-Wakamatsu-shi in Fukushima Prefecture. “Ohkawa Rs.” may refer to Ohkawa Nature Reserve or Ohkawa riverside; according to Shûhei Nomura (NSMT), the latter explanation is more likely. The initials “Y. K.” most likely mean the late Yoshihiko Kurosawa, a noted Japanese entomologist who collected many insects in Fukushima Prefecture in 1950s (information kindly provided by Shûhei Nomura in email dated 29.05.2020).

This species was described based on a single male found in Primorie , and here is for the first time reported to occur also in Japan. The identity of the Japanese specimen, slightly incomplete and with most setae broken off, was confirmed by direct comparison to the holotype (deposited at MHNG). Stenichnus dividus is a medium-size member of this large genus, reaching body length of ~ 1.45 mm, and it can be readily identified by the unique aedeagus ( Figs 29–32 View FIGURES 28–32 ) .
