Revised description. Large, moderately broad fusiform shell of six teleoconch whorls. Early spire low conical with wide apical angle of ~75°, decreasing to ~50° on later spire whorls.
Broad conical protoconch of 1.5 convex whorls; diameter 1050 μm, height 550 μm. Early teleoconch whorls low, with distinct shoulder, broad, low-angled, slightly concave subsutural ramp and moderately convex periphery. Axial ribs prominent on subsutural ramp. Sculpture of narrow axial ribs crossed by three spiral cords of same strength resulting in cancellate pattern below shoulder, subsutural ramp without spiral cords. Sculpture changing on third teleoconch whorl. Axial ribs replaced by weak, broad axial swellings overrun by widely spaced, weak primary spiral cords and weaker secondary spiral cords intercalated between primaries. Last whorl high, attaining ~70% of total height, with moderately convex to nearly subcylindrical periphery and strongly constricted base; axial swellings may form blunt nodes along shoulder; base and siphonal canal with numerous widely spaced cords of alternating strength. Aperture pyriform. Columellar callus forming narrow rim. Columella straight, smooth, weakly twisted at transition to siphonal canal. Outer lip thin, smooth within. Siphonal canal very long, straight, narrow.
Discussion. This species is unique within the Paratethyan fauna due to its low conical early spire and the change of sculpture from cancellate on early teleoconch whorls to broad axial swellings and wide-spaced primary spiral cords on last teleoconch whorls. Specimens from Badenian offshore clays of the Cserhát Mountains described by Csepreghy-Meznerics (1954) and Strausz (1966) as this species are most probably not conspecific with Xenofusinus haueri ( Hoernes, 1875) , based on the higher spire and more convex whorls on the drawing given in Strausz (1966). We have not seen this material and refrain from placing it in any genus.
Paleoenvironment. Tide- and storm-influenced outer–middle neritic depositional settings ( Grunert et al. 2012).
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Ottnangian (Early Miocene): North Alpine Foreland Basin: Gernergraben, Kaltenbachgraben ( Germany) ( Steininger 1973); Ottnang ( Austria) ( Hoernes 1875).
