Revised description. Large, club-shaped shell; apical angle ~55°. Protoconch unknown. Early teleoconch whorls poorly preserved with prominent, slightly drop-shaped axial ribs. Spire whorls with broad, concave subsutural ramp delimited by rounded shoulder placed slightly below mid-whorl. Broad axial ribs forming indistinct rounded tubercles at shoulder, fading over subsutural ramp. Spiral sculpture of prominent, broad, flat spiral cords separated by narrow interspaces. Last whorl attaining ~75% of total height, with broad, concave subsutural ramp, distinctly shouldered, often bearing low tubercles; base strongly constricted; base and siphonal canal bearing prominent spiral cords. Aperture elongate pyriform. Columellar callus forming narrow rim. Columella moderately and broadly excavated, smooth. Parietal denticle absent. Anal canal narrowly incised. Outer lip thin. No information on lirae or denticles available. Siphonal canal very long, straight, narrow.
Discussion. Aurantilaria rudis ( Schaffer, 1912) is a poorly known species because all available specimens are badly preserved. The species was placed in Euthriofusus Cossmann, 1901 ( Tudiclidae Cossmann, 1901 ) by previous authors. We have placed it in the Fasciolariidae rather than the Tudiclidae . It is difficult to pinpoint exactly why we have reached this decision in view of the poor preservation: the shell is more solid than usual for Euthriofusus , the spire taller, the shoulder nodules coarser, and it lacks a parietal denticle typical for Euthriofusus .
Paleoenvironment. Shallow marine, inner neritic.
Distribution in Central Paratethys. Eggenburgian (Early Miocene): North Alpine Foreland Basin: St. Gallen, Bern, Belpberg, Luzern ( Switzerland) ( Rutsch 1929; Pfister & Wegmüller 2007); Kaltenbachgraben, Dettendorf ( Germany) ( Hölzl 1958); Eggenburg, Gauderndorf, Loibersdorf ( Austria) ( Schaffer 1912); Nógrád–Filakovo Basin: Lipovany ( Slovakia) ( Steininger et al. 1971); Vaďovce Basin: Vaďovce ( Slovakia) ( Steininger et al. 1971); Petroşeni Basin: Sălătruc ( Romania) ( Răileanu & Negulescu 1964). Ottnangian (Early Miocene): North Alpine Foreland Basin: Gernergraben, Kaltenbachgraben ( Germany) ( Steininger 1973); Karpatian (Early Miocene): Pannonian Basin: Bántapuszta, Várpalota ( Steininger 1973), Korneuburg Basin: Karnabrunn, Kleinebersdorf ( Austria) (Harzhauser 2002). Note that most of these occurrences have not been checked by us.
