FAMILY EOPTOLAMNIDAE NOV.
Derivation of name: Derived from the name of the type genus, Eoptolamna gen. nov.
Diagnosis: Lamniform sharks only known by isolated teeth and characterized by the following combination of characters: tearing-type dentition with very weak gradient monognathic heterodonty; a single pair of parasymphyseals(?) present; mesiodistally compressed teeth, with generally a single pair of lateral cusplets; robust roots with short branches; lingual protuberance more or less massive; with nutritive groove, which might be secondarily closed.
Genera included: Eoptolamna gen. nov., Leptostyrax , and Protolamna .
