Genus Syringophiloidus Kethley, 1970

Type species: Syringophilus bipectinatus minor Berlese, 1887 , by original designation.

Members of the genus Syringophiloidus inhabit feather quills of secondaries, tertiaries, rectrices, greater-, primary- and median-coverts. They are widely distributed on passeriform birds, and have been recorded from representatives of the families: Artamidae , Bombycillidae , Cardinalidae , Corviidae, Estrildidae , Emberizidae , Fringillidae , Hirundinidae , Icteridae , Laniidae , Monarchidae , Oriolidae , Paridae , Parulidae , Passeridae , Ploceidae , Rhinocryptidae , Sturnidae , Turdidae , Thraupidae , and Troglodytidae . However, recent reports indicate their presence also on non-passeriform hosts from the orders: Apodiformes (fam. Apodidae ), Piciformes (Picidae) , and Trogoniformes (Trogonidae) .

This genus includes 38 species and 16 of them are recorded in the Nearctic region. Species group minor : S. bombycillae Skoracki, 2002 and S. minor ( Berlese, 1887) .
