5. Piper curtistipes C. DC. Candollea View in CoL 2: 213.1925.
Type:— INDIA: Sikkim, King’s collector 2271 (holotype CAL!).
P. mannii C. DC. Candollea View in CoL 2: 204. 1925 pro parte syn. nov.
Type:— INDIA: Manipur, Siogha (Sirohe?) Gamble 2577 β (lectotype designated here CAL!).
Distribution:— INDIA: Sikkim, Meghalaya; Bhutan.
Note:— This species seems similar in description to Piper caninum Bl. var. lanceolatum Hook. f. (1886: 82) . Long (1984: 350) wrongly considered this as a synonym of Piper khasianum C. DC. (1869: 349) , from which it differs in possessing pedicellate fruits. Piper curtistipes forma b C. DC. (1925: 213) cannot be considered as a legitimate name and therefore it cannot have a type; in spite of citation of “Khasia, Masododon, 300m C. B. Clarke 42931 β CAL!. (number was misquoted by C. DC. as 4231 β)”. This species differs from P. muneyporense C. DC. (1925: 213) in its glabrous rachis instead of being puberulous in the latter.
