HOLOTYPE: AMNH 254749 View Materials , adult male, collected at Chunyaxche , Quintana Roo, Mexico, on 31 January 1926, by Ludlow Griscom (no. 45).

COMMENTS: Griscom cited the AMNH number of the holotype in the original description and listed the six specimens in his type series. The five paratypes are: Belize (5 British Honduras), AMNH 59871 View Materials , male, 18 January 1890 ; AMNH 59872 View Materials , female, 19 January 1890, both collected by D.P. Ingraham. Mexico, AMNH 254748 View Materials , adult male, Chunyaxche , 31 January 1926 ; AMNH 254750 View Materials , male immature, Palmul , 10 February 1926 ; AMNH 254751 View Materials , female, Vigia Chica , 27 January 1926, all collected by L. Griscom.

Griscom designated AMNH 254749 as the type of rooensis but tied the type label on 254748. The two specimens differ in color, with AMNH 254749 darker. Both specimens are retained in the type collection, with a label added to AMNH 254748 to explain its paratype status.
