Cantharidae Imhoff, 1856: [2] 69 [stem: Canthar-]. Type genus: Cantharis Linnaeus, 1758. Comment: usage of the younger name over Telephorinae Leach, 1815 is conserved (Art. 40.2) (see Lawrence and Newton 1995: 860).
