TYPE SPEcIES: Desmacidon columella  BOwERbANk, 1874 (bY ORIgINAL dESIgNATION). TYPE LOcALITY: EXmOUTh, ENgLANd (IN TIdAL POOLS). 

Remarks. ThE dEFINITION OF Hemimycale  wAS SLIghTLY AmENdEd FORAbout FOR ThE INcLUSION OF H. oxeata  sp. nov. wITh OXEOTE LIkE TORNOTE SPIcULES, ANd H. ceadensis  sp. nov., wITh RAPhIdES. PULITzER-FINALI (1977) mENTIONEd ThE OccURENcE OF SPEcImENS OF H. columella  IN PANAREA ( ITALY, MEdITERRANEAN SEA) wITh STYLES AS ThE ONLY mEgAScLERES. HOwEVER, hE hAS PRObAbLY mISTAkEN ThIS SPEcIES wITh ThE LIPOdESmATOSE EASTERN ATLANTIc/ WESTERN MEdITERRANEAN Crambe crambe (SchmIdT, 1862)  ( CRAmbEIdAE  , POEcILOScLERIdA  ) whIch SImILARLY mAY POSSESS A PLUmOSE SkELETON cOmPOSEd OF A SINgLE cATEgORY OF STYLES ANd NO mIcROScLERES ( VANAbout VAN SOEST, 2002b).
